Jamie Hynes answered on 14 Mar 2018:
I think you’re technically working in healthcare as soon as you join medical school, as medical students are a very helpful part of the team. So I started working in healthcare 21 years ago, but started getting paid for it 16 years ago!! Still very happy to be doing this job!
I was sitting there with my University application form and thinking what I wanted to do as I still wasn’t sure. I heard a talk from someone saying if you aim for the top of the tree you won’t get off the ground, but if you aim for the stars you might get to the top of the tree…
After that I thought let’s apply for Medicine- (nobody did at my school). I thought it would be so interesting to do every day and make a difference to people’s lives. It came off for me and I would say dream big, believe in yourself and go for it; you’re capable of so much more than you’d think.
