When it comes to medicine, the hard work that doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals put in everyday to give the best care to their patients definitely inspires me.

Outside of medicine, I have to say Muhammad Ali is one of my biggest inspirations. Despite the odds being stacked against him, he proved to could achieve anything with hard work and dedication!

I’ve answered this one in my profile, it’s one of my favourite stories from when I was at school! Nowadays what inspires me is the behaviour and actions of patients when faced with great difficulties. Some of them have so much strength or compassion it’s inspiring, and a pleasure to be a part of their support network. I love seeing my trainees develop into colleagues, it’s so rewarding and I’m genuinely interested in their progress.

My mum is a doctor and I was inspired to follow in her footsteps from a young age. I was inspired by medicine and in particular general practice for several reasons – I thrive on variety and intellectual challenge and I am fascinated by people and patients – to be able to care for them and their families is such a privilege and I don’t think there’s a more rewarding job!

My mum! She was a biology and science teacher at a secondary school (not my school) and inspired my interest in science and the human body. My biology teacher at school was also inspiring. She encouraged me to study medicine and helped me to believe in myself.

I had my tonsils out when I was a child and loved the nurses. I joined the St John Ambulance Brigade and was certain I’d be a nurse. A PE teacher at school told me I was too good to be a nurse. She lead me to medicine.

It’s difficult to pinpoint one person or thing but a huge inspiration to me since I can remember has been my parents. Neither of them went to university but they have worked hard their entire lives – sometimes in jobs they loved, sometimes in ones they hated – to give me and my brother the support and home life we needed to get us through school and university. I would never be where I am today if I hadn’t had them fighting for me every step of the way – and that is absolutely the truth.

So many other people have inspired me too and I could never name them all but a few stand out people would be my A level Spanish teachers, my GP tutors at medical school and as a foundation doctor, and my best friend from medical school.
