• Question: why did you want to be a medic

      For me, more challenging academically at the time than being a nurse. Not sure that’s true any more as he nurses do almost the same as we do as doctors now in many of their roles.

      This is a similar one to one of the other questions which I answered:
      I was sitting there with my University application form and thinking what I wanted to do as I still wasn’t sure. I heard a talk from someone saying if you aim for the top of the tree you won’t get off the ground, but if you aim for the stars you might get to the top of the tree…
      After that I thought let’s apply for Medicine- (nobody did at my school). I thought it would be so interesting to do every day and make a difference to people’s lives. It came off for me and I would say dream big, believe in yourself and go for it; you’re capable of so much more than you’d think.

      I remember sitting at my medschool interview liking the sciences and also art, and I said to them I loved using art and creativity alongside the scientific knowledge for the benefits of patients and their health… if we use science and save lives but we have no art, no music, no creativity, no enjoyment then what would be be saving lives for?
      I didn’t get the required grades for medicine at A Level but got a place on the strength of my interview!
