I’m happy with my job the way it is at the moment- being a GP and a partner means that if there are parts we can change about the job, then we do it; the new junior doctor contract came in last year and meant they would have to have work/tutorials when they would normally have a break in the middle of the day- I would have to provide the tutorial, so I changed my start time to later in the day meaning I started alongside my trainee. This was I still get to have time with my family each Friday.
The wording in the question is could- if we have a choice and the ability to change something to make our working lives better then we do change it and see if it works.
The stuff that we can’t directly influence?
Make the NHS apolitical- a cross party group would be responsible for planning the NHS over the next 30 years so it doesn’t end up being a political issue each election that ends up changing each time we get a new government.

I think, for me, I would change the number of people around me – and increase the size of the teams I work in in the hospital environment to help us achieve our goals more quickly. When I was working in the GP setting, I think my biggest frustration was lack of funding for mental health services in the secondary care environment so if I had the power to, I’d like to redirect more money into this.
